            An adventure-packed tale telling of one woman’s struggle to find out who she is and to overcome gender and race prejudice.    Isabelle X  must go through many transformations before becoming Isabelle Brown, ardent Abolitionist mother of twins, one white and one black.  The story  begins in the boisterous New Orleans of 1812 and takes the reader to many other places including Paris, a Mississippi plantation outside of Vicksburg, Ripley Ohio, Philadelphia, Boston and Cambridge, before ending in St. Catherine’s Ontario.  It is a bittersweet tale, ending on a note of hope.
