The story of the charming but manic-depressive Willa Auerbach, told from the point of view of her daughter Randa, who goes through two pregnancies while Willa goes through hell in a rest home. It is 1967, and Walter Auerbach does not know how to cope with his wife’s illness; he eventually has a heart attack, which leads to a tragic ending. The last part of the novel is in playlet form.
